A Sunday always feels like a Sunday even if you're not working. Seeing as I'm not much inclined to go out and about today (except of course to the parentals for the obligatory Sunday roast!) I think I might wax lyrical about a couple of my favourite artists.
First stop, Robbie Williams
Robbie and I have been having a sonic relationship for about 17 years now, give or take. (Commitment is not one of my issues!) Having left one of the most successful boybands in British music history, Robbie surprised a lot of people by having a huge solo career. (Some of us totally saw it coming btw!) ;)
Huge pop anthems, searingly honest personal lyrics and an ability to see the funny side of life all collided. If you look up the phrase 'born entertainer', chances are there's an RW reference somewhere close by. Yes, that was cheesey but I'm going with it!
Look Robbie up here, but for convenience I am going to pop my fave Robbie song in here. It's beautiful and it makes me cry for all the right reasons. :)
*sigh*
And now for a complete change of pace.
30 Seconds To Mars
l to r
Jared, Shannon and Tomo
I'm going to keep this as short as possible! So these guys got signed in 1998, put out a self titled album in 2002 and the second album, A Beautiful Lie came out in 2005. I didn't hear of them til 2007 when their single 'The Kill' was released. You know when a song really catches your ear? Well, I kept hearing it on the radio and then came the day when they took part in what's called the Live Lounge on BBC Radio 1.
Artists come in and perform their latest single and then a cover of a contemporary song, all completely live to several million listeners.
First off was a gorgeous acoustic rendition of The Kill. I was already impressed at that stage.... and then this happened. Yes, it's a few minutes long but stick with it. It's worth it.
That rendered me pretty much speechless. So as soon as I got home, I googled and I youtubed and I LOVED!
These guys are going to be popping up frequently around these parts. First, because I was lucky enough to get tickets to see them in November, and second because there is almost a whole sub-culture going on with these guys and their fans. I got involved in that this year and it has been overwhelmingly positive. But that's a whole 'nother blog in itself. :)
In the meantime check the 30STM official website. Their new album 'This Is War' is being released on the 8th December of this year. *squee*
More meanderings later!
