30 Seconds To Mars, Karina, Tweaky and Me

"A friend is one to whom one may pour out all the contents of one's heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that the gentlest of hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away."
- Arabian Proverb

I could write pages and pages about my friends. I won't but I could. You'll be meeting them all in some form or another sooner or later. Just for the moment I'm going to tell you about my newest friends because communications between us are flowing fast and ever more excitable at the moment!

I have mentioned the band 30 Seconds To Mars in this blog and in my day to day life..... frequently. Some people have taken this to mean that I have 'ZOMG fangirl obsession!'. But that's not not really the case.

This is the internet age where kids cannot remember not having a PC or laptop around the house. I, however, remember the days of having only 1 landline phone and that was your lot. God forbid if you spent too long talking to your friends! Parental wrath generally happened at around 10 minutes. 15 if it was a good day.

So it amazes me all the more that I met 2 seemingly random people on the Mars message board. We had 2 things in common. Mars, obviously, and that fact that we all live in the same county. It started off with short 'Hi! You're from the same place I am!' messages. To cut a really long story short, we all met up for a Mars promo day. More on that in later blogs, would take way too long and go way off topic.

I have never had so much fun with 2 complete strangers! It was a loooooong day of giggling, discussing strategies and finally hanging huge pieces of wallpaper on the harbour front whilst talking to onlookers who were curious to say the least. Good times. :)

That was back in June if memory serves and I think I can speak for all 3 of us when I say that we've never looked back.

Karina is one of the most gentle souls I have ever met. Endlessly generous, she has a very sharp mind which is constantly moving at 1500 mph. If I had even of a tenth of her energy I would consider myself very lucky indeed. We have similar tastes in music and books and all the good stuff that leads to great conversations.

Tweaky, aka Tweaks, aka The Tweakster. No, this is not her actual name. The origins of this nickname that we bestowed upon her will be taken to the grave by all 3 of us. Almost needless to say, alcohol was a factor. Again, generous to a fault in every way, honest and forthright and with a backbone of steel.

And these girls are FUNNY! Funny to the point where my stomach hurts and tears are rolling down my face. Emails, texts, phone calls and messenger, belly laughs are assured every single time. They are also caring and considerate and, along with my already established sisterhood of friends, have been hugely supportive during my time of need.

We were incredibly lucky to get tickets to the Mars gig coming up next month and the excitement is growing daily. For me and Tweaks this is our first show. Karina has been to quite a few and, bless her heart, she is excited for us as well as herself. As she said the other day, she's excited that this time she gets to share it with friends. That meant a lot to me.

To me this Mars show will be incredible but not all of it will be because of the band. Please excuse me being so conceited as to quote myself, but as I wrote to the girls the other day, "know that when Mars hit the stage and we’re all standing there, screaming and yelling, part of it isn’t for them. It’s for us."

Provehito in Altum, ladies. ;)
